"Pehriska-Ruhpa, Minnatarre warrior in the costume of the Dog Danse"  -  Pehriska-Ruhpa was a Minatarre, but Bodmer painted him in the costume of the "dog band" of the neighboring Mandans.  In this ritual, three men designated as "true dogs" were obliged, "if anyone throws a piece of meat...onto the ground, saying, 'There dog, eat,' to fall upon it, and devour it raw, like dogs or beasts of prey."
